You are required to show you vehicle registration mark as well as either the original MOT number your got from your test or the actual documents reference number which is shown on the V5C registration certificate issued by the DVLA.

Unlicensed or SORN Vehicles
When a vehicle has been declared SORN the registered owner of that vehicle must ensure that it wont be used or kept on a public road until the new license has been taken out.
